Bay County Florida Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on bigamy charges last week after his second wife made a surprising discovery.
Martha Weed Dumstorf contacted authorities after she found out that her husband, George William Dumstorf, 68, of Springhill, was also married to a woman in Melbourne, Stephanie Dumstorf.
Martha and George met in 2004. Martha, unaware of his first wife, Stephanie Dumstorf, willingly agreed to marry George later that year in Bay County. The two have resided in Hernando County for the past two years.
George had told Martha that he divorced Stephanie many years ago. He also made a claim that Stephanie had died while working in Haiti for a church organization. He backed his claim with an e-mail allegedly sent by one his children.
Martha unknowingly thought her husband’s extended absences from their home in Hernando were due to his job with the federal government. George’s business partner recently told Martha otherwise. He shared with Martha that Stephanie was still alive and actually still married to her husband. Martha contacted authorities immediately.
After launching a full-scale investigation, authorities have discovered that George was issued a marriage license under the name George Dumstorf in 1960. Authorities were unable to find any evidence that supports that George divorced Stephanie. It is also confirmed that Stephanie is indeed a living and breathing being in Melbourne.
George was picked up by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for Bigamy from Bay County and transported to the Bay County Jail on Nov. 16. Since the crime originally took place in Bay County, George was charged in Bay rather than Hernando.

I was married to a man I met in church. He was already engaged to another woman. I did not know. The church people kept silent. I had just moved to florida. He pursed me. We married after a short relatonship. I soon began to notice something different about my husband. He had another wife of 20 years whom he had not divorced and she never divorced him. He denied his wife ever existed. I filed Bigamy. We reconciled sometime later, I thought he was sincere. He divorced his wife of 20 years and we decided to remarry. He brought new rings. But to my surprise it was not me he wanted to marry. It was another woman that he had an extra martial affair with. He managed to pay off his car in secretly, lying about the debt. He used my faith to manuiplate me into believing he was led by God to come back and do the right thing. He secretly, continued a relationsip with this woman and others. He cheated over and over, he did not pay bills, He would make sure his prostitutes were paid first. The household always suffered because of his addiction I paid for the divorce. Can I sue him and his new wife for the money I spent for a lawyer?

This is a surprise to learn .I have a similar situation and in 2006 I was browsing the Sarasota COunty clerks website for my Fathers probate information.Mistakingly I keyed in my last name and all these documents appeared with my husbands name
everywhere. Documents for morgage . I saw another womans name signed with his . I immediately contacted the clerks office and the police. The police went to the home he had built for his second wife and told him I was searching. He fled. No arrest was ever made and 2 weeks after he was notified he went to city bank , filed a quit claim deed in his second wife name and then filed to request and foreclose on the home he had built. All 13 of his cars were also put in her name . I have all the records from investigations I did on my own. I was in touch with the lawyer who did his foreclose . Instead of involving me to pick up the payments and possess the home the lawyer bought it back the day of court for foreclose. I spent $4000 on a lawyer who ate the money up in unneeded phone conversations with an Atlanta process server.Atlanta was where the husband fled. He is back in Sarasota now and continues to live his life knowing whee I am . I have no money to pen a case. The both have a child .
