Prosecutors charged a Frankfort, IN woman with bigamy, saying April Carter had three husbands at the same time.
According
to The Frankfort Times, the 22-year-old woman failed to divorce her
first two husbands before marrying a third man. Investigators told The
Times that Carter tried to file the first one herself but her husband
never got the paperwork. She remarried and then tried to
divorce that man. But this time, Carter apparently mistook child
custody papers for divorce papers.
Carter married a third time.
According to The Times, Carter's second husband told prosecutors about
the illegal marriages. Carter pleaded not guilty. If she's convicted, Carter could face three years in jail.
