PA Man Charged With Bigamy
Alec Steven Bohn, 27, of Georgetown Road, Silver Spring Township PA, was charged Wednesday with one count of misdemeanor bigamy by state police in Newport. Perry County District Attorney Charles Chenot said Bohn's first wife, Monica Bohn, called authorities in May to say that her husband had married a woman in Perry County.
Cumberland County records show Alec and Monica Bohn were married on Oct. 21, 2006, Chenot said. Chenot said he checked Perry County records and found that Alec Bohn married Leah Marie Thomas of Blain on May 8. Chenot said Monica and Alec Bohn are still married but estranged.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 5 before District Judge Donald "Pete" Howell in Newport. Alec Bohn was issued a summons in the mail to appear in court that day and was not sent to prison or required to post bail. Efforts to reach both women were unsuccessful.

That is very sad and happens a lot of the time. Never trust anyone to get the divorce. It is always best to do it yourself. The criminal record he received in PA is not too bad, as bigamy is only a misdemeanor on PA, which is good in your friend's case, but has been very bad for some real victims from PA.
Unfortunately, the county authorities the the county were they were married have no clue if he marries in another county. That is why a National Marriage Database is needed to ensure these things do not happen.

I applaud your efforts to protect unknowing innocent victims from predators, but I believe this story has no place in your circle. This is the story of a man that was estranged from his former wife and entrusted her to process the divorce paperwork he executed and gave to her upon their separation. They have not had contact for over a year, and because she is bitter and angry over the separation, she withheld the divorce papers and ultimately called the police when Alec started his life over with another woman. Alec felt he went through all the proper procedures when engaging in marriage to Leah, including conducting searches with the County authorities where he was originally married, who advised him there was no barrier to him being re-married. This young man's life has been sadly derailed, he gets a criminal record and a social tattoo, all because of someone else's actions.
