Alvin Leroy Thompson,
54, was arrested Tuesday on the rare charge of bigamy. He got out of
the Volusia County Branch Jail later that day after posting $1,000 bail. According
to a Sheriff's Office report, Leroy's first wife, Yvonne Thompson, 52,
of Deltona called deputies to make a complaint about the second
marriage. Yvonne Thompson said she and Alvin Thompson have been
separated since December, and she found out this month that he married
Earlene Sherman Thompson, 44, of DeLand on May 18. Efforts to reach Alvin Thompson were unsuccessful Wednesday. A
deputy made checks with the family law and marriage license offices and
confirmed Alvin Thompson was married to both women, the report states. According to court records, Alvin Thompson was also accused of bigamy in 2005 but not prosecuted. Bigamy
is not common locally and is a third-degree felony, Assistant State
Attorney Chris Kelly said. If convicted of the charge, Alvin Thompson
faces up to five years in prison. By Patricio G. Balona of the newsjournalonline. A DeLand, FL man married to a
